Graspetide biosynthetic gene clusters in Porphyromonas gingivalis

Characterization of widespread graspetide biosynthetic gene clusters in the periodontal pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis
Ashley K. Miles, Cole B. Matrishin, Kathryn M. Kauffman — Department of Oral Biology, School of Dental Medicine, University at Buffalo

All known graspetides are protease inhibitors. This work maps the biosynthetic gene clusters encoding them across P. gingivalis genomes, shows they ride on integrative and conjugative elements, and sets up the functional question: which host and bacterial proteases does this one actually inhibit?
